With prestigious environmental awards like the 2007 Banksia Award for Sustainable Built Environment Award, “Overall Winner” 2006 Western Australian Environment Awards and “Corporate Business Leading by Example” Category Winner 2006 Western Australian Environment Awards, under its belt, National Lifestyle Villages is fast gaining a well-earned reputation for its environmental innovations developed and incorporated within each of its Villages.
Each Village is designed for long-term social, environmental and financial sustainability. Not satisfied with just meeting the ‘triple bottom line’, National Lifestyle Villages also practises sustainable governance whereby our internal policies ensure we are meeting sustainability targets for both Lifestylers and the National Lifestyle Villages team.
As National Lifestyle Villages retains the management and ownership of the entire site it is able to undertake a significantly greater level of sustainable development than in the conventional residential developments characterised by multiple site ownership.
To promote sustainability we’re continually striving to reduce energy use that contributes to climate change. Multiple recycling bin systems, Reuse Rooms, Asset Recovery Centres and solar hot water systems are all being added to the sustainability measures already in use. We’re serious about helping to ensure our children and grandchildren will continue to experience the enviable lifestyle we enjoy.
To help National Lifestyle Villages become Water-wise communities, we embrace the Great Gardens philosophy. Our Village landscaping is designed to create environmentally friendly and sustainable gardens that showcase the colour, variety and attractiveness of Australian and other exotic plants, while taking advantage of their low water and nutrient needs.
During the building phase of each Village, National Lifestyle Villages retains as many existing trees on the site as possible. Over time, National Lifestyle Villages become safe, green environments that are home to a wide variety of bird species and other flora and fauna.
Team members at National Lifestyle Villages are often extremely passionate about environmental sustainability and hold regular lunchtime workshops, seminars, and sustainability fairs, to educate other team members and the public about ways in which they can take ‘tiny steps to leaving a tiny ecological footprint’.
National Lifestyle Villages develops each new Village with the goal of making it even more environmentally-friendly than its predecessors, and so shows its commitment to sustainable living.
