John Wood, National Lifestyle Villages founder talks with Harvey Deegan about security of tenure
Harvey Deegan here, and we’re talking lifestyle with John Wood founder of National Lifestyle Villages. John I’ve been hearing a lot about security of tenure and how the legislation is being reviewed. Can you tell us a little bit about how National Lifestyle Villages provide security for its clients?
Well Harvey security of tenure is one of the most important criteria for our clients. It’s fundamental to our land lease lifestyle village model which is why we were the first land lease developer and operator in WA to introduce a sixty-year lease seventeen years ago long before the legislation was introduced in two thousand and six. But our model doesn’t just protect people’s home asset in our communities. We’re also able to provide a greater level of personal security and financial security.
How have you been able to do that John?
Well Harvey personal security is something that our Lifestylers really value. The communities are gated and our Lifestylers become connected like a big neighbourhood watch. The front gates have video surveillance and close at dawn and open at dusk. Financial security is achieved because on average our home and lifestyle packages are about forty percent less than the median house price in the suburbs meaning our clients can get to free up capital to fund a better lifestyle. On top of that Harvey the pensioners living in our communities get the federal government subsidy which reduces their fees by a third making the weekly cost of living in one of our communities very affordable and sustainable for retirees on a fixed income.
